RA: Renters Anonymous – April 8th, 2008

Here is the first post of hopefully many. I’ll be providing links and ratings from our favorite movie site I Heart Movies. So let me know what you think and what you would like to see in future postings.

This Week: April 8th, 2008

Dewey CoxThere Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood – 8.4/10 – A story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business. The movie was up for 8 Oscars and won Best Actor for Daniel Day- Lewis’ performance and Best Achievement in Cinematography for Robert Elswit’s work.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story – 7.3/10 – From Judd Apatow, the same guy that gave us 40-Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad. I’d say if you enjoyed Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy then you’ll like this one. It’s an Apatow production staring John C. Reilly, do I need to say more?

Lions for Lambs – 7.1/10 – Injuries sustained by two Army ranger behind enemy lines in Afghanistan set off a sequence of events involving a congressman (Tom Cruise), a journalist (Meryl Streep) and a professor (Robert Redford). If you like political drama’s then this might be for you.

The Water Horse: Legend of the DeepThis is basically a kid’s movie about the Lochness Monster. Should be a good one for the kiddies to watch.

SharkwaterThe film is a documentary on sharks: how they live, how they are portrayed by the media, and how they are treated today. I’ve been waiting for a long time to see this so I hope it’s as great as the reviews have said.

The 11th Hour - A documentary on environmentalism by Leonardo DiCaprio. If you enjoy listening on how we’re ruining the planet than this should be a movie for you, if not, then trade in your car for a bicycle, pick up some litter and huge a tree and you should be good.

P2 – 7/10 - A horror/thriller that takes place in a parking garage about a psycho security guard who is after a young businesswoman. The plot sounds iffy, maybe skip this one.

Reservation RoadA film about the tragic aftermath of a car accident starring Joaquin Phoneix, Jennifer Connelly and Mark Ruffalo. Sounds like it could be a decent drama/thriller but according to Rotten Tomatoes, I think it’s best to look elsewhere.

Music WithinFrom IHM, “The true story of Richard Pimentel, a brilliant speaker with a troubled past. Pimentel returns from a tour of duty in Vietnam, his hearing severely impaired and finds true purpose and meaning in his life working on behalf of Americans with disabilities.”

BrokenFrom IMDB, “Deep in the LA night HOPE confronts all the wrong turns she’s made since leaving Ohio and ultimately meets the biggest wrong turn of all in her ex-boyfriend WILL, who’s determined to win back her love or die trying.” Not to be confused with the other horror/thriller Broken movie released the same year and same lead character name.

My Rentals:

There Will Be Blood – I want to see what all the hype is about.

Sharkwater – I’ve been waiting a long time for this to come out on DVD since I missed it in theaters.

What are you going to rent/buy this week? What do you think about this weekly feature?

  • I rented "Music Within" today and really enjoyed it. Its a great story showing how one man cared so much for the ones that everyone else ignored.
