Uwe Boll is a Genius aka This Week in Movies 4/9/08

There’s always a constant flutter of movie news popping up on blogs around the net. We don’t choose to write about everything we hear or see, but hopefully through this post you’ll be caught up on all you missed.

* Uwe Boll announced late last week/weekend that he would stop making films if the internet petition and campaign against him reached 1,000,000 signatures. Many blogs covered this story as well as some larger media outlets. The petition currently has 142,069 signatures. I’ve signed the petition. If it prevents another terrible video game movie, I’m all for it.

* After seeing all the press from the petition, Uwe Boll then recorded a video response calling out Michael Bay and Eli Roth as well as asking for a pro-Uwe petition to be created. The pro-Uwe petition currently has 8 signatures. Read more about it on slashfilm. Also, have to love Roth’s response of “greatest compliment ever” to Boll’s video. Really, I think Boll just pulled a fast one on everyone and got a ton of free press for his upcoming release Postal (which releases May 23rd and already has a 4.3 rating on IMDb).

* Disney and Pixar, via a press conference in New York, dished out their upcoming release schedule up to 2012. The releases included Wall-e, Bolt, Up, Toy Story 3D, The Princess and the Frog, Toy Story 2 3D, Rapunzel, Newt, The Bear and the Bow, Cars 2 and the King of the Elves. You can read about it here or here. This may seem as if Pixar has finally run out of fresh ideas, but the people who attended the conference seem pretty interested. Also, we’ll be seeing new Pixar flicks for the next few releases anyway with Wall-e, Up and Newt.

* Disney has also announced that a fourth installment of High School Musical will created for the Disney Channel. Somehow I missed a third one being released (to be honest, I haven’t seen any of them, so I’ve missed them all). If you’re interested in more, read all about it.

* Film School Rejects say that Chaos Theory is definitely a movie to check out. They also explained although Dane Cook and Ryan Reynolds may look alike, they don’t share much else in common (well, beyond Waiting…). I’m fairly interested in this film, so I’m going to take their word on it. If you want to look into it, they’ve got a trailer up on their post or feel free to check out our selection of trailers for the film. You may also want to get in on some Chaos Theory gear.

* According to Cinematical, all those who missed out on naked Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe the first time will get another chance to see him perform in the buff. Equus, the Broadway play that he bares it all in will begin a stint in NY starting on September 5th. If that’s your thing, check it out.

* The Movie Blog wrote an article on how to pick out a DVD to rent with your girlfriend. While you may get disinterested just reading the title, the information inside was actually well done. I think all our time spent at the movie store could be better spent if we knew the 5-1 technique.

Well, I’m doing digging through the trenches of the movie news (read: using Google Reader) to pick out the news for you all. Feel free to check out the links and let me know what you thought of the stories. I will however leave you with some video clips from The Red Bull Flugtag.
