WBO: Prom Night Scares its Box Office Competitors

In a weak box office weekend, the remake horror film Prom Night* takes the top honors. It was able to gross $22,700,000 over the weekend while playing in 2,700 theaters. The remake which features no big names to draw in crowds was helped by its viral marketing publicity stunt, but surprisingly wasn’t hurt by how much it was disliked by critics. (Trailer)

Taking the runner up spot this weekend was the street police action thriller Street Kings*. This film directed by by the writer of Training Day was able to pick up $12,000,000 in gross this weekend. It was displayed in 2,467 theaters and stars Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker. (Trailer)

21, the blackjack gambling thriller, came just shy of nabbing the second place spot ending up with $11,000,000. It had the #1 spot since it’s release, but was knocked down thanks to Prom Night and Street Kings. It’s currently playing in around 2,736 theaters. So far it’s been able to rake in around $62,268,000 since it’s release. (Trailer)
