Trailer: Fred Durst Directs The Longshots
It just so happens that when I think of ex-Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst (which isn’t all that often), I don’t think of him as a director. Come to think of it, if I were to think of him as a director, I wouldn’t see him as a director of a feel good, family catered, football based movie. Oddly enough though, that’s just what he’s gone and done.
Releasing in July is Durst’s film The Longshots which tells the story of 11-year-old Jasmine Plummer who became the first female to play in Pop Warner football tournament in its 56-year history. The film will star Ice Cube as Jasmine’s mentor and uncle.
I don’t really know how I feel about another cheesy, uplifting sports drama that showcases someone overcoming the odds to be an inspiration to everyone. The only part that really even caught my attention about this film was that fact that Fred Durst was the one who directed it. If it weren’t for that, I would have considered it another possible flop starring Ice Cube. Granted, I’m not saying it still won’t be.
Did you enjoy the trailer? What do you think of Fred Durst as the director of a family friendly/inspirational film?
The Longshots is set to release on July 25th. More cast and film info can be found via IHM’s page for the film.
