Semi-Pro - 7.1/10 - Trailer
Will Ferrell is back in another sports movie, playing another over the top character.  Ferrell is Jackie Moon the owner, coach and player of the Flint Tropics a fictional ABA basketball team.  The film takes place in 1976 around the time that the ABA merged with the NBA and at the beginning of the film, the Tropics are not one of the teams that will be merge with the NBA to Jackie Moon’s surprise, even though they are the worst team in the league.  Moon suggests that at the end of the season the top four teams should be the ones to merge into the NBA, so now it is up to the Tropics to work their hardest and clinch their 4th place spot.  Comparing this to Ferrell’s other sport movies, I think Semi-Pro was better than Blades of Glory but no where near the quality of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.  This film has a decent amount of laughs but I think it tries too hard to add a more serious plot, it’s a great Ferrell filler until Step Brothers releases.  I’d recommend this film for a laugh this weekend but don’t expect greatness.

The Eye - 4.8/10 - Trailer
Another Japanese horror movie is remade for North America, lucky us. This time it stars Jessica Alba who plays Syndney Wells a violinist who became blind at the age of 5 but 20 years later she undergoes a cornea transplant which helps return her vision.  Unfortunately her new found sight comes at a price, now she can see dead people (yea corny).  But it seems all the visions of death and destruction are events that have occurred in the past and now she must try and unravel the mystery of her newly found Sixth Sense (yes I made another corny joke).  As per usual, the ratings for this film are much lower than it’s Japanese original, so if you can sit through subtitles it’s in your best interest to hunt down the original because it’s either subtitles or bad acting from Jessica Alba.  But if you’re still in for a scare than you’ll probably want to check this one out, either for the horror story or the horrific acting.

Meet the Spartans - 4.2/10 - Trailer
Unfortunatally the people who put out Scary Movie, Epic Movie and Date Movie still think that they are funny and are still putting out these spoof films.  The first Scary Movie was decent but it’s been a rapid decline since then.  The main film that this is mocking is 300, which was a great action film, but there are other spoofs throughout the film such as Transformers, Borat, Spider-Man 3, The Matrix, American Idol plus a few others.  If for some reasons your still on the spoof train than I bet you’ll want to see this, but if you’re like everyone else I’d highly suggest skipping this film and hopefully the creators will get the message and just quit it already.

My Rentals:

The Eye (maybe)- Even though the film has received some pretty bad reviews, I still enjoy watching Jessica Alba and no I don’t watch for her acting skills.  But I’ll have to see what kind of mood I’m in when I’m at my local Blockbuster to see if I actually pick this one up.

What do you plan on picking up to fill your addiction this week?
