General Admission – June 6th, 2008

Opening this week: June 6th, 2008

Kung Fu PandaTrailerStarring Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogan, Lucy Liu, Ian McShane, David Cross
Dreamworks brings us another computer generated animated family film starring Jack Black as a noodle-maker panda named Po.  The great evil warrior Tai Lung has escaped from prison and in order to re-imprison him the “chosen one” must be found.  You guessed it, Po is the supposed chosen one.  So now Po will finally be trained in Kung Fu by a master and his five apprentices.  At first, all signs pointed to sucktacular, but the critics seem to be enjoying the film.  I still don’t think the film will become bigger than that other green Dreamworks hit.  And I really doubt the film will be off Pixar quality.  But if you have kids than you should definitely bring them to this film and you might find that you’re laughing right along with them.

You Don’t Mess With the ZohanTrailerStarring Adam Sandler, John Turturro, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Nick Swardson, Rob Schneider
Adam Sandler stars as Zohan, a Mossad officer, decides to give it all up and move to New York and become a hairstylist. But as the trailers seem to reveal, Zohan is eventually found by some people from his past and must fight to keep his new way of life.  What I found particularly interesting was the writers of the film, we have Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow and Robert Smigel.  Smigel is the writer of those TV Funhouse cartoons on SNL and I believe this is his first feature film.  I don’t know how much each of the film each of these guys wrote so I don’t know who to congradulate or scorn.  I’m a big fan of Sandler but after I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry I’m worried about how this film will turn out.  I know I’ll be check this out at one point but from the trailers I don’t think it’ll be in the theater.  If you’re also a Sandler fan than you might want to check this one out.

What I Plan on Seeing:

None at the moment, but if I hear some good things about either film I’ll probably check it out, if not I’ll be renting both when they release.

What do you plan on checking out this week?

  • I think I'm going to have to check out Kung Fu Panda with all the good things I've been hearing about it. I'm ready for a good animated comedy and am hoping this can live up to what it's apparently supposed to be. I guess we'll find out.
