Watch the Watchmen…trailer

All day today the Watchmen trailer has been popping up on various websites only to be taken down within the hour, but now since Apple Trailers has the clip it should be staying up.  For those not in the know, The Watchmen is a critically claimed graphic novel that is on Time Magazine’s 100 Best Novels written by Alan Moore (the guy who wrote V for Vendetta) and illustrated by Dave Gibbons.  I’ve recently been reading the graphic novel and I am very impressed by the writing, so if after you watch the trailer and decide that you will be seeing the film, you might want to pick up the novel.

So for those of you who have read the novel, do you think it stays true to the material?  For me, everyone in the film looks just like the characters in the novel, I even was able to recognize certain scenes in the book.  I don’t think I can explain the book better than wiki, so here

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternative history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight). It tells the story of a group of past and present superheroes and the events surrounding the mysterious murder of one of their own. Watchmen depicts superheroes as real people who must confront ethical and personal issues, who struggle with neuroses and failings, and who - with one notable exception - lack anything recognizable as super powers. Watchmen’s deconstruction of the conventional superhero archetype, combined with its innovative adaptation of cinematic techniques and heavy use of symbolism, multi-layered dialogue, and metafiction, has influenced both comics and film.

What do you think of the trailer?  Will you be adding this to your must watch list?
