Nim’s Island - 6.8/10 - Trailer
This week we have a children’s book turned film starring Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler. Breslin plays Nim, a young girl who lives alone on an island in the South Pacific with her father. But when her father vanishes out to sea one day, Nim teams up with Alexandra Rover the author of a popular series of adventure books to try and rescue her father. And while this is all going down, Nim must protect the island that she loves from being overrun by tourists. The reviews seem to be split on this movie, half of them good and half of them bad, so it could be a toss up if you’ll enjoy this film or not. But if you have read the book you might have a more informed decision.
The Counterfeiters - 7.3/10 - Trailer
This is an Academy Award winning 2007 Austrian/German film that won the award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film takes place during the Second World War and deals with how the Nazis had a secret plan to destabilize the United Kingdom by flooding its market with counterfeit currency. The central character is a Jewish counterfeiter who is forced into assisting the the Nazi’s at one of the concentration camps. The film has an interesting plot and should be a pretty good film considering the Oscar win. This is probably the best bet for the general viewer this week and should be able to be enjoyed by all.
Starship Troopers 3: Marauder - Trailer
Johnny Rico is back, kicking faces and taking names. This time Rico leads the Marauders, an elite team of troopers who are equipped with new battle-suits and sent on a rescue mission. The first film was great, the second film not so much, but hopefully with the return of an original cast member this film might be able to gain back the interest of fanboys. Unfortunately NPH isn’t in this sequel so we know it won’t be legen…wait for it…dary. If you’re looking for a decent scifi action film than this should you’re choice for this week.
My Rentals:
Starship Troopers 3: Marauder - I loved the first film so I’m really hoping that with the re-use of Rico that this film might turn out decent or at least better than the 2nd film.
Anything strike your fancy this week?
Coming up next week:
Smart People, CJ7, Felon
