Zack and Miri Get an R Rating

For those of you who have followed the Kevin Smith and his struggle to get an acceptable MPAA rating for Zack and Miri Make a Porno, you’ll like the news we’re bringing you today. While originally back in June the MPAA gave Zack and Miri an NC-17 rating, Smith has been in the process of appealing that rating. And, finally his appeals have paid off.

Today the MPAA themselves announced that they’ve reduced the rating for Zack and Miri to an R rating instead of the much more mature NC-17. The R rating will allow them to openly market the film and seek to bring in a wider demographic. If they wouldnt’ have been able to get the rating reduced, it’s more than likely that the film probably wouldn’t have been released wide (if it was released at all) because of restrictions placed on the adult ratings.

Another bit of good news is that they were able to get the rating reduced without removing any of the objectionable scenes at all. Apparently, from those who have seen the film, the scenes that the MPAA took offense to were some of the funniest ones in the film. So, being able to keep those in the film is definitely a big win for Smith and co.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is set to release on Halloween (October 31st for those who don’t follow masked holidays). It stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. And, of course, it was directed by the one and only Kevin Smith. Get ready for promo city for this film as we get closer and closer to October.
