General Admission - August 13th, 2008 - Early Edition
Opening this week: August 13th, 2008
*Tropic Thunder opens Wednesday night while the remaining films open on Friday Night
Tropic Thunder - Trailer - Starring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Brandon T. Jackson, Steve Coogan
During the filming of a Vietnam war movie, the director decides that he isn’t getting the best performances from his actors. Soon he decides to put the actors into the actual jungle in the middle of a real war so he can film them. Ben Stiller plays Tugg Speedman, the action hero who tried to play a serious actor with disastrous results. Jack Black is Jeff Portnoy, the comedian who is known for playing multiple roles in his movies. And Robert Downey Jr is Kirk Lazarus, the Australian Academy Award winner who undergoes a medical procedure so that he can play the African American character in the film. This movie is a giant spoof on Hollywood and a good one at that. For big laughs this week, make sure you check out this film. Also before you hit up the film, make sure you pick up your Booty Sweat energy drink.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona - Trailer - Starring Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Hall
Woody Allen is back with Scarlett Johansson with a film about two American women, Vicky and Cristina, who are on vacation in Barcelona where the two meet an artist. The three soon develop a relationship that is going well until the artist’s mentally unstable ex shows up. For the guys out there, you get to watch Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz make out for a good part of the movie. If you’re looking for a quirky romantic comedy than Woody Allen has a film for you. If you don’t like Woody Allen’s films than you probably will want to skip this one.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Trailer - Starring Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, Ashley Drane, Tom Kane, Christopher Lee, Samuel L. Jackson
This film takes place between Episode II and Episode III and centers on the Clone Wars. Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent on a mission to find Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt, and figure out who has taken him and why. For those who haven’t seen the trailer, this film is animated and done completely in CG. This won’t be your average Star Wars film and is tailored more towards a younger audience and die hard Star Wars fanboys. So if you fall into any of those categories you might want to check this one out, otherwise you might be disapointed with your choice.
Mirrors - Trailer - Starring Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton, Amy Smart
This is a remake of the 2003 South Korean horror film Into the Mirror where a man and his family is targeted by a woman who uses mirrors to attack her victims. Honestly, I’m tired of these half-ass American remakes of foreign horror films, hopefully Hollywood will soon come up with their own ideas for great horror movies. But if you still enjoy these films I’d recommend waiting for the dvd to release and catch one of the other films releasing this week.
My Ticket Purchases:
Tropic Thunder - This movie just looks hilarious, I can’t wait to see Robert Downey Jr.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona - I enjoy Scarlett Johansson and I loved her in Woody Allen’s Scoop so I have high hopes for this one.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - I’ve watched all the Star Wars films and I watched every episode of the Clone Wars animated TV series so I’ll definitely be catching this film.
