General Admission - August 20th, 2008 - Early Edition

Opening this week: August 20th, 2008

*The Rocker opens Wednesday night while the remaining films open on Friday night.

The Rocker - Trailer - Starring Rainn Wilson, Christina Applegate, Teddy Geiger, Josh Gad, Will Arnett, Emma Stone
Robert Fishman (Rainn Wilson) would have been the drummer for one of the 80s greatest hair bands Vesuvius but he was fired before they made it big.  Now Fishman gets a second chance when he joins his nephew’s garage band.  When a video leaks to the internet of Fishman drumming naked, the group becomes famous.  Rainn Wilson is pretty funny as Dwight from The Office, but I don’t see him becoming lead character material.  This is probably best suited as a rental comedy when it releases later on.

Death Race - Trailer - Starring Jason Statham, Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson, Ian McShane, Natalie Martinez
This is a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000.  In the future, prison inmates are forced to compete on live television in a driving arena where they must race to the death.  All the cars are heavily customized with armor and weapons in order to compete in the race.  This could be some cheesey car chase action that turns out to be great fun.  If you want some crazy action this week than you might want to check this one out.

The House Bunny - Trailer - Starring Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Colin Hanks, Katharine McPhee, Rumer Willis, Kat Dennings, Beverly D’Angelo, Kiely Williams
Shelley Darlington (Anna Faris) is a Playboy Bunny who gets thrown out of the Playboy Mansion by her rivals.  Now with nowhere to go and nothing to do, Shelley stumbles upon a sorority house that needs to sign a new pledge class in order to keep their house.  She will use her knowledge of the opposite sex to help teach the awkward sorority.  Even though this involves Playboy Bunny’s this comedy is tailored for a female audience so it could turn out to be a decent film for a ‘girls night out’.

The Longshots - Trailer - Starring Ice Cube, Keke Palmer, Tasha Smith, Jill Marie Jones, Dash Mihok
This film is based on the true story of Jasmine Plummer, the first female to participate in the Pop Warner football tournament.  A former high school football star coaches his niece into becoming the quarterback for the local team.  Here’s an interesting fact for prospective movie goers, this film was directed by Fred Durst, yup the lead singer of Limp Bizkit.  It’s weird to think of him as a family film director.

My Ticket Purchases:
None?  I don’t know if Rainn Wilson will be able to pull off The Rocker, so I’m going to be waiting for DVD to check it out and the rest don’t really interest me.

What do you plan on seeing this week?

Coming attractions:
Babylon A.D., Traitor, College, Disaster Movie
