OMG The Boys is Being Adapted by Sony
So remember a little while ago when I was talking about Simon Pegg no longer being cast in ‘Inglorious Bastards’ and then I went on into a little rant about his likeness being used in a comic book titled ‘The Boys’? Well it looks like Sony just picked it up and will be using Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay to adapt it into a film for Columbia Pictures.
The comic book series is about a small group at the CIA that’s sole purpose is to keep Superheroes inline and make sure they don’t get out of control. Basically it answers “Who watches the Watchmen?” and is a great complement for the Watchmen graphic novel. I started reading the series right after I finished Watchmen (which I highly recommened) so I’m sort of excited to see this being turned into a film. They reason why I’m only sort of excited about this news is that the comic book is very very graphic both with violence and sex so I am worried that the content will be toned down for the big screen. Also, if Simon Pegg doesn’t get picked up to play HIS character in the film then I will be totally pissed. Not only is his likeness used for one of the main characters in the series, but he wrote the forward for Volume One.
Another worrisome point is that this is still an ongoing series, thus we do not know how much of the content they will use for the film and what will be left out. Will they just grab the first few issues and leave the rest for possible sequels? Or will they grab a few issues that currently span the series and try and piece them together to make a film? I guess time will tell and I’ll be sure to post updates on anything I hear about the film.
Have any of you read the series? How well do you think that this material can be adapted?
