General Admission - August 29th, 2008

Opening this week: August 29th, 2008

*Finally we are back to regular Friday releases

Babylon A.D. - Trailer - Starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Mélanie Thierry
In the near future, Toorop (Vin Diesel) is a mercenary who takes the job of escorting a woman named Aurora from Eastern Europe to New York. While he thinks this is just an ordinary mission, he gradually finds out that his guest is carrying an organism that has the potential to become the next Messiah — and everybody wants to get their hands on it.  At first this movie was sounding good but after hearing the rantings of the director about how Fox neutered the film, I don’t know if I still want to see this.  But if you’re looking for some scifi action then this is for you, otherwise you might be better off seeing Traitor.

Traitor - Trailer - Starring Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Jeff Daniels
When strait arrow FBI agent Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce) heads up the investigation into a dangerous international conspiracy, all clues seem to lead back to former U.S. Special Operations officer, Samir Horn (Don Cheadle). A mysterious figure with a web of connections to terrorist organizations, Horn has a knack for emerging on the scene just as a major operation goes down. The task force links Horn to a prison break in Yemen, a bombing in Nice and a raid in London, but a tangle of contradictory evidence emerges, forcing Clayton to question whether his quarry is a disaffected former military operative - or something far more complicated. Obsessed with discovering the truth, Clayton tracks Horn across the globe as the elusive ex-soldier burrows deeper and deeper into a world of shadows and intrigue.  This can turn out to be a pretty decent spy thriller with Cheadle as the lead.  The only problem the critics have with the film is that it is too much of a cliche but sometimes that might be a positive.

Hamlet 2 - Trailer - Starring Steve Coogan, Catherine Keener, Amy Poehler, David Arquette
A failed actor-turned-worse-high-school-drama teacher, Dana Marschz, rallies his Tucson, AZ students as he conceives and stages a politically incorrect musical sequel to Shakespeare’s Hamlet in order to save the school’s drama department in a midst of budget cuts.  From the trailers, I think one of the funniest parts might be “rock my sexy Jesus”, and that might give you some indecation of what kind of comedy this might be.  If you’re easily offended than steer clear of this one, otherwise make sure you grab a ticket.

College - Trailer - Starring Drake Bell, Andrew Caldwell, Ryan Pinkston, Kevin Covais, Nick Zano, Zach Cregger, Gary Owen, Haley Bennett, Camille Mana
A group of high school teenagers decide to head off to a college campus for the greatest weekend of their lives.  Basically this is a different version of American Pie: Naked Mile / American Pie: Beta House.  I don’t know how well this one will turn out and if it deserves a theater release.  From the trailers it looks funny but not hilarious.  If you’re still into this highschool/college movies than feel free to check it out and let us know how it was.

Disaster Movie - Trailer - Starring Carmen Electra, Kim Kardashian, Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Nicole Parker, Crista Flanagan
First off, if you see this movie, then we are no longer friends, don’t write or call because you will be dead to me.  Next, the film is causing people so much pain that wikipedia had to lock the article due to vandalism.  If you still want to catch the film then what is left of wiki, has this as the plot

A group of people try to make their way to safety while every known natural disaster and catastrophic event hits the city and their path as they try to solve a series of mysteries to end the rampant destruction.

Also, many of the films being parodied in this are not “disaster” movies (ie Hulk, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda), the only disaster is that this film actually got produced.  But seriously, if we all agree not to see this film than hopefully the creators will get the hint and give up on films all together.

My Ticket Purchases:
I’m not sure, I was going to see Babylon A.D. but after all the horrible reviews and the directors rant, I’ll probably be skipping this one.  Other than that I’ll try and catch Hamlet 2 and hope it’s a good laugh.

Do you guys plan on seeing anything this week or do you plan on saving your pennies?

Coming attractions:
Bangkok Dangerous, The Accidental Husband
