News: Michael Moore’s Newest Doc Gets Name Change and Internet Release

If you’re a fan of Michael Moore’s directorial work you’ll enjoying reading this little tidbit of news.  Apparently, Captain Mike Across America has changed it’s name to Slacker Uprising (the name of the tour which the film is about).  With that change comes even more news, the film will be released for FREE online according to a press release on Moore’s website.  That’s right, if you hate Michael, you can see his film without forking over any of your cash to him and if you like him he’s doing a nice thing and saving you a few bucks.

This is the first I’ve ever heard about a major filmmaker doing anything in a distribution model like this.  Not that Moore, who has made three of the top five grossing documentaries ever, has always done things the standard way.  But, instead of hitting theaters on it’s release date, you’ll be able to go to a website and download the film in it’s full form.  Unfortunately, the film will only be available in the U.S. and Canada.  But, Moore and distributor Brave New Films are not making a dime from this as Moore says he’s doing this to honor his fans and the 20th anniversary of Roger & Me.  Do you plan on downloading the film and checking it out?  I’ll definitely check it out both to support Moore (as I have almost always enjoyed his films) and to support this new distribution model.
