Poster: City of Ember Decides to Differentiate from Internet Explorer ‘E’

If you haven’t seen the original poster for City of Ember, you’re probably wondering what the hell I was mentioning in the title there.  Well, click the link and find out.  I’ll wait.  OK, good, you’re back.  See what I mean?  Anyway, City of Ember is a film about two teenagers who have to find a way to save the people in the city of Ember after the city’s powerful light generator fails.  I’m sure you’re all super excited to see it now.  Actually, as cheesy as the plot sounds, the trailer makes the film look a lot better.

Unfortunately, someone doesn’t know how to market this film well.  While at first they aimed the teaser poster to be based off a well known browser’s icon, they’re now making the poster look like a shittier version of Journey to the Center of the Earth’s poster.  In the words of Alex Billington at FirstShowing, “Since when did combining the posters for The Goonies and Journey to the Center of the Earth become the latest hot thing in Hollywood?”

Regardless of all that, let me know what you think of the poster.  Don’t forget to watch the trailer so you can get a better feel for what the movie is actually going to be about versus what the poster’s are showing.  You can catch the film in theaters on October 10th.
