Poster: Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac in Soul Men

What may come to serve as the last cinematic memory we get to have of Bernie Mac (and Isaac Hayes who had a short cameo in the film and died a week after Bernie Mac) is the film he was working on when he passed called Soul Men. The film features Bernie Mac attempting to restart his soul-singing career with his old partner in soul, Louis (Samuel L. Jackson). Of course they hit many humorous obstacles along the way attempting as older men to take part in a young man’s field.
While the film is apparently cursed and directed by the director of Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, I think it will have its funny moments. It probably won’t be the best comedy ever, nor will it probably be all that great of a film. But, does a film have to be great to enjoy it? Also, having the hardest working man in Hollywood and a comedy legend definitely doesn’t hurt its chances. How do you think it will turn out? Are you interested?

Soul Men, which opens in theaters on November 7th, was directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, Roll Bounce). Screenwriters Matthew Stone and Robert Ramsey, previously of such films as Intolerable Cruelty and Big Trouble, served as writers on the film. The trailer for the film can be found on IHM’s page for the film.
