Trailer: Philip Seymour Hoffman in Synecdoche, New York

Today’s trailer presentation is Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York. The film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as Caden, a man who scared about his impending death creates a life-sized version of New York city inside of a warehouse as part of a play he intends to create as something for the world to remember him. While the film has been hitting the tour circuit recently, reviews that have streamed in from those who have seen it (/Film and FirstShowing) both state that it will take multiple views to fully digest what the movie is about. /Film claims it “is either brilliant or completely insane.” After seeing the really well done trailer, I’m ready for mulitple viewings. Not to mention the brilliant emergence of Hoffman in his past few films as an amazing actor. He’s truly something to watch for in any film he shows up in.
Synecdoche actually means putting a part for a whole, as in a replica city representing the real deal. Kind of a little trivia, because you love that stuff. Now if only you can say it when you’re trying to tell your friends. Either way, check out the trailer below and let me know what your thoughts are. Interested in seeing it? Ready for something a little more complex?
Synecdoche, New York is written and directed by Charlie Kaufman (writer of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation and Being John Malkovich). Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michelle Williams join Hoffman in this film which opens on October 24th.
