Opening this week: September 19th, 2008

My Best Friend’s Girl - Trailer - Starring Dane Cook, Kate Hudson, Jason Biggs, Alec Baldwin, Lizzy Caplan
Tank (Dane Cook) is put to the ultimate friendship test when his best friend Dustin (Jason Biggs) hires him to take his ex-girlfriend Alexis (Kate Hudson) on a lousy date just to show her how great her former boyfriend is. When Alexis finds Tank more fascinating she decides that she wants Tank, and wants to take him to a wedding instead of Dustin. Dustin tries to become more like Tank in an attempt to get Alexis back. In the meantime, Tank is trying to make Alexis like Dustin again, but Dustin is trying to mess up the wedding and ruin Tank’s and Alexis’s relationship at the same time. This is this week’s date movie.
Ghost Town - Trailer - Starring Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, Téa Leoni, Billy Campbell, Alan Ruck, Kristen Wig
A misanthropic dentist (Ricky Gervais) gains the ability to communicate with ghosts after a near death experience in which he dies for seven minutes during a colonoscopy and is then miraculously revived. Ghosts begin to pester him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who wants him to break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni), putting him in the middle of a supernatural love triangle. This is this week’s general comedy that is hopefully funnier than the trailers let on.
Lakeview Terrace - Trailer - Starring Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, Patrick Wilson
In Lakeview Terrace, a young interracial couple Chris Mattson (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington) have just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship. A stern, single father, this tightly wound LAPD officer Abel Turner (Samuel L. Jackson) has appointed himself the watchdog of the neighborhood. His nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but he becomes increasingly harassing to the newlyweds. These persistent intrusions into their lives ultimately take a turn for the worst when the couple decides to fight back. I don’t know about you but from the trailers this film looks like it should have went straight to DVD.
Igor - Trailer - Starring John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Eddie Izzard, Molly Shannon, Paul Vogt
Igors are usually typecast as foolish and stupid henchmen to the eccentric mad scientists in the fairytale land of Malaria. However, one particular Igor, tired of the mistreatment and stereotyping against him, decides to participate in the Evil Science Fair, a grand display of the creations that the greatest evil scientists invent. In his attempts, he creates something he least expects - life. This is the film that you can bring the kids to
My Ticket Purchases:
Although I really enjoy Ricky Gervais, I don’t think I’ll be seeing Ghost Town in the theater, it just doesn’t have that great british humor that I have come to expect from him. And as for My Best Friend’s Girl, nothing about the film has really pulled me into wanting to see it.
If you don’t want to head to the theater, feel free to check out Film Appetizers.
But if you are heading out, what do you plan on catching this week?
Coming Attractions:
Eagle Eye, Miracle at St. Anna, Nights in Rodanthe
