This Stuff is Kick-Ass
So with some new shots from the set of Kick-Ass, I thought I’d give you guys a brief look into what the film/comic is all about.
Basically the comic is about Dave Lizewski, a normal high school student who is a total geek, he loves comic books, video games and super-hero films (sounds like a lot of people I know, ie me). He starts thinking, with all of these films about superheroes out there why hasn’t anyone tried being a superhero themselves. One wouldn’t even need superpowers, just some fancy gadgets and a mask and you become a lame version of Batman. So Dave deciedes he will become the first real world superhero, he starts hitting the gym and makes a cheap costume that he wears under his clothes.
During his first outing on the town, he decides that he will start his crime fighting career. He finds a young woman who is being mugged and heads over to defend her. Unfortunately things don’t go according to plan and he gets his ass kicked. He has to explain the events to his dad, obviously not disclosing his secret identity and has to go a few weeks in crutches. Once healed he sets out again, this time saving a man from a beating which gets captured on a cellphone and uploaded to YouTube. Now he is a real world superhero.
So basically this is about a kid who wishes to realize the comic book stories that we all read and watch on the big screen, which should turn out for a pretty interesting story line. Right now the comic book series is only on it’s fourth issue, I had a chance to read the first one and it was pretty good. Now I have the 2nd issue on order from my local comic book store and have the 3rd and 4th issue purchased in anticipation of the 2nd issue.
So now unto the cast and set photos. Right now we have:
Cast
Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski
Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl
Lyndsy Fonseca as Katie Deauxma
Nicolas Cage as Damon Macready (actual on set photo of Cage in character)
*You can see more of the Nic Cage on set shots over at TheBadandUgly.
and McLovin…I mean Christopher Mintz-Plasse as The Red Mist (a new unheard of nemesis, so this is not McLovin in character)
On-set photos
We have some on set photos courtesy of /Film that we can compare to the first issue of Kick-Ass:
I remember reading this scene, basically we have a guy in some sort of superhero bird suit jump off the top of a building. On the way down he attempts to activate his wings in order to glide/fly to safety and fight some crime. Unfortunately, all does not go according to plan, as you can see from the photos. So far the photos coming from the set look like the same panels from the comic so I guess we can expect a similar experience when the film releases. The only worry I have is that from what I can tell, the comic becomes very violent and I bet that it will get toned down for the film in order to pull in a larger audience. But as long as the main character doesn’t go emo and has a dance sequence I think the film is in good hands.
So now that everyone is up to date, I’ll do my best to keep everyone posted on any Kick-Ass developments.
Are you going to pick up the comic or just wait for the film? And for those who already read the comic, what do you think of the first on set photos?
