Video: The First Five Minutes of Blindness

Looking to catch a sneak peek at Fernando Meirelles’s Blindness before heading to the theater?  Well, you’re in luck.  Miramax has just released the first five minutes of the film on Yahoo.  While I’ve yet to see the film, I’m really interested in seeing it and actually have enjoyed everything I’ve seen so far.  After watching the first few minutes, I’m more excited.  How about you?  You can catch Blindness in theaters starting tomorrow (October 3rd).  Check out the video below to catch the first few minutes of the film (if you’re reading the RSS, you’ll have to click-through to the post).  Don’t forget to let me know what you think of it below in the comments.

    The film spreads misconceptions about people who are blind, and reenforces negative stereotypes and misconceptions held in certain segments of society.

    With proper training, atitude, and resources the actual condition of blindness can be reduced to a mere characteristic or occasional inconvenience. Most issues faced by the blind are attitudinal in nature and not directly related to blindness itself.

    The film has no cast tallent that is actually blind, and in no way reflects the reality of life as a person who is blind.

    What in the film causes misconceptions about those who are blind? What negative stereotypes and misconceptions are present?

    Please give specific examples so that I can be sure to look for those and try to understand your point. I'm more than happy to support those who feel they're being treated unfairly, but just to throw out accusations doesn't really help any cause.
