General Admission - October 3rd, 2008

Opening this week:
October 3rd, 2008

Blindness - Trailer - Starring Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover, Alice Braga
A mysterious epidemic causes the people of a modern city to spontaneously go blind with no known cure.  It is based on the 1995 novel of the same name by José Saramago.  If you’ve been following us, then you will have noticed that we gave away two copies of this book and we’ve been pretty excited about the release.  It seems like a pretty interesting thriller with a very interesting plot that might give you something to think about and talk about with your friends.

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People - Trailer - Starring Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Megan Fox, Jeff Bridges, Danny Huston, Gillian Anderson
Sidney Young is a disillusioned intellectual who both adores and despises the world of celebrity, fame and glamour. His alternative magazine, Post Modern Review, pokes fun at the media obsessed stars and bucks trends, and so when Young is offered a job at the diametrically opposed conservative New York based Sharps magazine its something of a shock! It seems Sharps editor Clayton Harding is amused by Young’s disruption of a post-BAFTA party with a pig posing as Babe. Thus begins Sidney’s descent into success - his gradual move from derided outsider to confidante of starlet Sophie Maes - and a love affair with colleague Alison Olsen, that will either make him or break him.  Simon Pegg == Hilarious, Megan Fox == mega fox, thus movie == must see.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist - Trailer - Starring Michael Cera, Kat Dennings
It’s been three weeks, two days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick. And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? Nick, in a desperate attempt to show her he’s moved on too, turns to the girl next to him and asks her to be his five-minute girlfriend. This begins the night of Nick, Norah and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotic ex-boyfriends and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends. It’s the night of Julio and Salvatore. The night of holding hands and writing songs and singing in the rain. It’s a night they’ll never forget.  Looks like another great comedy that will be competing for the top spot.

Flash of Genius - Trailer - Starring Greg Kinnear, Lauren Graham, Dermot Mulroney
Robert Kearns takes on the Detroit automakers, namely the Ford Motor Company, whom he accuses of stealing his idea for the intermittent windshield wiper.  Looks like a decent drama but I don’t think it’s getting enough advertisment to grab a big enough audience.

Appaloosa - Trailer - Starring Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Renée Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, Lance Henriksen
Based on the 2005 Western novel by Robert B. Parker, Appaloosa is centered around lawman Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his sidekick Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen), two friends who are hired to defend a lawless 1880s town from a murderous rancher (Jeremy Irons). Their efforts are disrupted and friendship tested by the arrival of an attractive widow (Renée Zellweger).

Beverly Hills Chihuahua - Trailer - Starring Drew Barrymore, George Lopez, Pablo Francisco, Andy Garcia, Tom Arnold, Piper Perabo
The film chronicles the adventures of a pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore) who, while on vacation in Mexico, gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home before she is caught by a mean Mexican dogcatcher who wants to use her to start a fur factory.  Please don’t see this, I beg you.

Religulous - Trailer - Starring Bill Maher
Bill Maher decides to travel around and make a documentary about world religion, what more do you need to know?  This is going to be both funny, controversial and stimulating.

My Ticket Purchases:

I got a full plate this week, I’ll be seeing Simon Pegg and Megan Fox in How to Lose Friends & Alienate People and then laughing it up with Michael Cera in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.  I’m also going to try and catch Blindness because it looks like a pretty sweet thriller with a great idea.

What is everyone catching this weekend and is your plate as full as mine?

Coming Attractions:
RockNRolla, Body of Lies, City of Ember, Quarantine, Sex Drive
