Trailer: The Uninvited Shows That Elizabeth Banks Can Be Creepy as Hell

Elizabeth Banks has been a busy woman lately.  Not only in she starring in W., Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Role Models (all of which open in the next three months), but she’ll be arriving in theaters again in January with a horror thriller titled The Uninvited.  The film focuses on Anna Rydell (Emily Browning) as she deals with a new stepmom (Banks), her father and some ghosts in her house that are attempting to convince her that her new stepmom is a murderer.  Sounds like some family drama!

The trailer definitely scores some points in its creepiness and tense striking abilities, but I’m not seeing much solid coming from it.  It’s also based on Korean horror film Janghwa, Hongryeon.  And we all know how great the recent crop of Korean horror imports have been.  But, with it’s strong cast (among those mentioned is David Strathairn) I’m hoping I’m proved wrong.  Who doesn’t like a good scary movie?  Let me know what you think after the trailer below.

The Uninvited is directed by the Guard brothers (Charles and Thomas).  Beyond some various techinical positions on other films, this is essentially their first mainstream film as directors.  Heading up the writing for the film are Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (both of whom are writing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time).  Alonside of them is Craig Rosenberg.  The film hits theaters on January 30th, 2009.
