General Admission – October 10th, 2008

Opening this week:

Body of LiesTrailer
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Golshifteh Farahani, Carice van Houten, Vince Colosimo
Based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius’s 2007 novel, a CIA operative (Leonardo DiCaprio) is sent by his manipulative boss (Russell Crowe) to Jordan to find a high-ranking terrorist. While in Jordan, the operative forms an uneasy alliance with the head of Jordan’s covert operations.  A spy thriller that doesn’t star James Bond, Ethan Hunt or Maxwell Smart? That’s blasphemy but it still looks good.

City of EmberTrailer
Starring Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, Saoirse Ronan, Toby Jones, Harry Treadaway
The story follows two children, Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, who live in the City of Ember, an underground city built to house a human community for 200 years. Having reached the end of its 200-year mission, Ember’s power source begins to become problematic and the lamps start to flicker, because the generator that powers the city has broken and cannot be repaired. Together, the children search for clues that will unlock ancient mysteries about the city and save the people of Ember before it’s too late.

QuarantineTrailer
Starring Jennifer Carpenter, Steve Harris, Jay Hernandez, Johnathon Schaech
Television reporter Angela Vidal (Jennifer Carpenter) and her cameraman (Steve Harris) are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. They soon learn that a woman living in the building has been infected by something unknown. After a few of the residents are viciously attacked, they try to escape with the news crew in tow, only to find that the CDC has quarantined the building. Phones, Internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those locked inside. When the quarantine is finally lifted, the only evidence of what took place is the news crew’s videotape.  It really feels like they are ripping off Cloverfield but using a horror genre instead.

The Express
Starring Rob Brown, Charles S. Dutton, Dennis Quaid
Based on the incredible true story, The Express follows the inspirational life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Following his draft by the NFL, tragedy struck the inspirational life of college football hero Ernie Davis (Rob Brown), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.
