Collector’s Corner: Watchmen – The Ultimate Cut

watchmenSo remember how there were like 3 seperate films of Watchmen out to buy?  The film, Motion Comics and Black Freighter?  Well they are finally merging them all together and splicing Black Freighter into the film (like it was originally intended, and how it is in the graphic novel) making an Ultimate Cut.  When the film released in theaters, it was 162 mins long.  And then when it released on home video for the first time as a Director’s Cut, it stretched to 186 mins.  Now with more scenes and the Black Freighter spliced in, the film will be an epic 215 mins (that’s over 3.5 hrs!).  The special features will be a mash up from Watchmen: Director’s Cut and The Black Freighter.  The Ultimate bundle will also include the full Motion Comics, this is where they do a fancy slideshow of the whole graphic novel with voiceovers and minor animation.  The DVD set will have 5 epic discs while the Blu-ray will have 4 discs, because they have more room per disc to stuff things in.

These awesomeness will release November 3rd and the DVD will cost around $45, Blu-ray $60.  I know that if you already bought Watchmen and the Black Freighter AND the Motion Comics, this feels like sort of a rip off, but if you’re a big enough fan, you’ll buy it.  I now know that I should have waited, but too late now.  You may want  to keep your copy of the Director’s Cut since it will cut down 30mins of viewing for when you don’t have 3.5hrs to watch the film.

Will you be watching the Watchmen?

  • Hell yeah! I was expecting The Black Freighter in the theater version and totally disappointed at it not being there. I am psyched I never bought it and looking forward to the blu-ray!
  • I bet a million bucks that there will be another, even bigger version soon.

I still haven't watched this film. Is it worth it? I get so many mixed reviews.

While I don't agree with everything you said, there are some good points.
