Yesterday we brought you some gorgeous production photos from Star Trek. Today, the Maquis has slipped some long awaited plot details from Cardassia to Entertainment Weekly. Most of us were curious about how everything in this movie was going to fit together, and now it makes some sense. I’m highly suspicious of time-travel plots, because they can either create really fine Trek, or really lousy Trek.

Check out the scoop after the jump to warp 9.

Star Trek’s time-travel plot is set in motion when a Federation starship, the USS Kelvin, is attacked by a vicious Romulan (Eric Bana) desperately seeking one of the film’s heroes. From there, the film then brings Kirk and Spock center stage and tracks the origins of their friendship and how they became officers aboard the Enterprise. In fact, the movie shows how the whole original series crew came together: McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoë Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Sulu (John Cho), and Chekov (Anton Yelchin). The adventure stretches from Earth to Vulcan, and yes, it does find a way to have Nimoy appearing in scenes with at least one of the actors on our cover — and maybe both. The storytelling is newbie-friendly, but it slyly assimilates a wide range of Trek arcana, from doomed Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) to Sulu’s swordsmanship to classic lines like, ”I have been, and always shall be, your friend.” More ambitiously, the movie subversively plays with Trek lore — and those who know it. The opening sequence, for example, is an emotionally wrenching passage that culminates with a mythic climax sure to leave zealots howling ”Heresy!” But revisionism anxiety is the point. ”The movie,” Lindelof says, ”is about the act of changing what you know.”

Even though almost everyone that I talked to really liked The Incredible Hulk (especially when compared to Ang Lee’s Hulk), it didn’t produce nearly what they planned at the box office. Not only that, but it suffered from terrible release timing as it was sandwiched between Iron Man and The Dark Knight (the latter of them may eventually go on to break every film record for the US). So, if those weren’t bad enough for the possibilities of a sequel happening, Edward Norton has (during an interview with MTV) stated that he is currently being kept in the dark on whether he’ll come back as the Hulk or not.

“Incredible Hulk” star Edward Norton says Marvel Studios isn’t giving him any indication they want him to reprise his role as the publisher’s green goliath, whether in a solo sequel or team-up project.

“The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque,” Norton told MTV News. “I won’t say [they're] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do.”

Norton said he’s also been kept in the dark regarding any plans for him, in his role as Hulk’s alter-ego Bruce Banner, to appear in Marvel’s big team-up project, “The Avengers.” The film, which is expected to feature The Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and several other Marvel characters, is currently scheduled for a 2011 release.

“They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters,” said Norton, who appeared a bit skeptical of Marvel’s ambitious plans for the project. “Who knows where they’ll go?”

It probably doens’t help that Norton and Marvel fueded many times about different things in the last film. While originally Norton had redrafted most of the screenplay for the film, much of it was later cut out not to be seen in the film at all. And, to top it all off, Norton was removed from having a writer’s credit for the film. Therefore invalidating most of his work for the film.

I really liked the film and thought Norton took it leaps and bounds ahead of where it had been before. The fact it wasn’t a box office success wasn’t due to the film itself, but Marvel’s positioning it so close between Iron Man and TDK. The film would have been much better off had it been released further away from Iron Man (or even prior to it) as it would make its box office take look much better and more than likely more fans would have went to see it.

Personally, I’m tired of the Norton and Marvel fued, and would just like to see this all resolved. I’d like to see a sequel come out of this (starring Norton of course), so I’m really hoping they get their stuff together. Either way, I guess we still have a billion other comic book movies to soothe the wounds if this doesn’t work out.

What’d you think of The Incredible Hulk? Would you like to see a sequel or should it be one and done?

Well Alien fans, rumor has it that Sigourney Weaver is still very interested in reprising her role as Lt. Ellen Ripley. Weaver stated, “If a good director and script were right she wouldn’t be above another jaunt into space, even if only for a small part.” Weaver further added that casting another as Ripley wouldn’t work because, “she ‘is’ Ripley.” Weaver hasn’t been affiliated with the franchise since 1997’s Alien Resurrection.

Being a huge fan of the “Alien” series, I would welcome the opportunity to see Ripley battle the xenomorphs once again. In my opinion, the franchise has taken a nose-dive with it’s latest endeavor, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. The film did illicit my interest but left me with a sour taste. With the exception of the aliens, the film didn’t really feel connected to it’s predacessors. It’s time to get back to the original formula that captivated audiences and created such a strong female lead. I often fantasize that Ripley stumbles upon the home planet of the aliens and annihilates them in one final showdown. As we all know, this is a strong possibility, her clone is alive and well on Earth. Hell, if Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone can recreate their signature roles, well into their sixties, Weaver should be able to trek into the far reaches of space. Let’s just hope this comes to fruition and doesn’t drift around deep space for fifty-seven years!

Now, this is just internet gossip and rumors at this point. And, being the high brow blog that we are, we feel very comfortable dipping into the gossip pot to bring you news that more than likely may not even be true. That’s what you come to us for… Right?

As this rumor goes, Jason Statham apparently expressed his interest to Frank Miller (director of Sin City and The Spirit as well as tons of comic books/graphic novels) about playing Daredevil in a new revamp of the series. They met at this year’s Comic-Con and just so happened to get takling when Statham expressed how much he would love to play the character stating, “absolutely, just give me the chance, I would love to be Daredevil.” Frank Miller supposedly responded pretty favorably stating that he believed Statham would make a good Daredevil.

Now, you may remember the last attempt at Daredevil which starred Ben Affleck. Unfortunately, unlike the recent Incredbile Hulk film (which was a reboot of Ang Lee’s Hulk), it may be a bit harder to get people interested in a film that many consider to be one of the worst comic book films of all time. The terrible film also was able to spawn an even worse Elektra movie starring Jennifer Garner. While I have little doubt of Miller’s abilities in turning properties to gold, I just don’t know if his name and Statham’s kickass-ery will be able to interest the general moviegoers.

So, with all of the above rumors in mind, how do you feel about a Daredevil reboot? Do you think Statham and Miller would be able to turn the franchise into a success? Would you plan on seeing it?

Jealous of the trend of every single comic movie banking right now, Sony has decided to really go forth with their Venom spinoff. Even though he was essentially killed off in the last movie, Sony is hoping to score big with comic fans as well as possible revive the Spiderman series.

Most people and fans were incredibly let down not only by Spiderman 3, but by Venom’s time in the role. While Topher Grace did a decent job (and one of the better in the film), Venom’s screen time was limited even more than boring villain The Sandman. I for one have always liked the dynamic that served between Spidey and his dark nemesis. Seeing Parker and Brock duel it out as competing superhumans has always been one of the most exciting parts of the comics and cartoons for me.

With that in mind, I think I’d enjoy a Venom spinoff. Unfortunately, I don’t know if I can see a film just about him, Brock or even just the Symbiote’s affects on people being all that worth a movie. It has always been having that second part of the duo that’s done it for me and without it, it’ll be a challenge to entertain audiences. Either way, wew’ll have to see how it turns out.

What do you think of a Venom spinoff? Were you a fan of Venom is Spiderman 3? Are you a fan at all?

Marvel is rumored to be wanting Brad Pitt (seen to the left in costume for Troy) to star as Thor according to LatinoReview. It would certainly seem logical to cast him in this spot as he has both the muscular Thor looks as well as the acting ability to pull it off. I enjoyed him as Achilles in Troy and could see him putting together a similarly badass version of Thor. Granted, this all depends on if they make him an offer (and of course he’d have to them accept it).

Who do you see acting the best as Thor? Is Pitt the right choice?

After a title like that, I know you’re rejoicing as a reader so I’ll go ahead and give you a second to recoop. Alright, ready to read again? Good.

Adam McKay mentioned last night, at a press conference for The Foot Fist Way, that he and Will Ferrell have been talking about getting the original cast together again to film a sequel to 2004’s comedy hit Anchorman. The comment came about when he was asked what his future plans were as far as movies are concerned. His response was:

I’m looking to do another movie, I might do this other movie called Channel 3 Billion which is kind of this science fiction/Brazil type comedy. Then after that, Will and I are like let’s do Anchorman 2…so you’re talking like 2 years maybe we’ll do it. But we’re going to do it, for sure.

When then asked if he was joking or he was 100% serious on the statement, he responded with:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We’re dying to do it. Unless we can’t get the cast together, which is always kind of a tricky thing. But, I think, with that cast we’re all friends, so yeah, we want to do it.

So on that note, it appears Anchorman 2 may start filming or start getting people together around 2010 and hopefully arrive in theaters around 2011.

Do you think this is a good idea for a sequel? Were you a fan of the original?

While I wouldn’t normally jump on rumors so quickly, Cinema Blend is reporting that they received a tip that told of certain Warner Bros. execs that were debating on cutting out a certain unsettling scene from July’s release of The Dark Knight. The source of the tip explains that during test screenings of the film, the audience is not responding well to a certain scene featuring Heath Ledger due to his recent death. I’m going to be mentioning some slightly spoilerish details from the scene, so if you’re not interested in hearing them stop reading now.

The scene apparently features Ledger’s character Joker in a body bag pretending to be dead. I believe pics of this were leaked (and just as quickly snatched up and removed from blogs) a few weeks ago. If that’s the case, the scene in which is being mentioned by the source probably exists.

Keep in mind that this is only a rumor so far, so all my thoughts are mere speculations based on said rumors. My only problem with censoring out a scene in this fashion is that Ledger was alive for the complete filming of The Dark Knight. So, his performances were as he wanted them to be (while he was still alive). To remove scenes due to his death, to me, is a disservice to his work and his legacy as an actor. This movie, and his portrayal of Joker inside of it, will probably live on to be one of his most recognized (if not creepiest) performances so far. This would have been the role to really solidify him as a prime time actor and prove to everyone how well he was able to perform as one. To remove scenes that he deemed to be acceptable for reasons other than artistic styling, would be cutting out possible intentions he had and in effect tarnishing the legacy that this film is set to create for him.

Again, this is only a rumor at this point, so all of what I said above is my feelings based on that rumor being true. If it turns out to be false information, then great and we can all pretend we didn’t read that last rant/paragraph by me.
